4 hunters – Remote Public Land Hunting Charter – Remote Marlborough Alpine Wilderness

Nelson Helicopters

Hunt Description

Experience the pinnacle of Southern Alps hunting with a professional helicopter insertion into the rugged Marlborough Range. This is a true “top-of-the-world” adventure, dropping you and up to three companions onto remote ridgelines to pursue free-range Chamois (pronounced sham-wa) and Red Deer.

This is a self-sufficient expedition into some of the most awe-inspiring and demanding terrain in New Zealand.

The Experience

  • Elite Access: Round-trip helicopter transport from Nelson directly to a high-altitude ridge camp.
  • The Quarry: Alpine Chamois and Red Deer in a pristine, free-range environment.
  • The Landscape: Rugged, exposed, and remote. Reliable year-round water is accessible via multiple freshwater tarns at the camp drop-off location.
  • The Hunt: Prepare for long glassing sessions and technical, long-range shooting (typically 350m–400m).

Logistics & Payload

  • Total Weight Limit: Strictly 560kg total for the party of four. This includes all hunters, gear, weapons, and any trophies or meat being transported out.
  • Meat & Trophy Management: Hunters are responsible for cooling and field preparation. Extraction is included within the total weight limit.
  • Permits & Legal: Hunters must secure their own Department of Conservation (DOC) hunting permits. All firearm licensing and import logistics are the responsibility of the hunting party.
  • Weather Buffer: A 2-day buffer is required on either side of flight dates to allow for alpine weather shifts.

Requirements

  • Fitness: A grueling physical hunt. High-level cardiovascular fitness and mountain experience are essential.
  • Mandatory Gear: A sturdy hiking pole is a necessity for the rugged terrain.
  • Safety & Comms: Parties must carry GPS, offline maps, walkie-talkies, and a satellite communication device (e.g., Garmin inReach) or sat phone. PLBs are mandatory.
  • Self-Sufficiency: Hunters must provide all food and lightweight alpine tents.

Services Included: Expert regional advice and optional helicopter support if required. Nelson Airport transfers can be arranged.
