Nestled within the renowned Water Valley in South Australia, our guided hunts offer an unparalleled opportunity to experience the thrill of the chase amidst breathtaking landscapes, all within 116,000 acre’s of premium hunting territory.
Led by expert hunter Bill Teffaha, each excursion promises an immersive and educational journey as you track down your desired prey. With over 20,000 deer spanning species such as Fallow, Red, Sambar, Rusa, and Chital, the reserve boasts some of the largest trophies in the country, ensuring an unforgettable hunting experience.
This particular hunt has a focus on getting you either a Chital stag, or meat animal (hind). The Chital deer, also known as the spotted deer or axis deer, is a medium-sized deer species native to the Indian subcontinent, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. It has a distinctive appearance characterized by a reddish-brown coat adorned with white spots, particularly prominent on its flanks. The underside of the body is usually white. Both males and females possess antlers, though those of males are typically larger and more elaborate.
In terms of size, Chital deer vary, but adult males typically weigh between 80 to 165 kilograms (176 to 364 pounds), while females are generally lighter, weighing around 50 to 100 kilograms (110 to 220 pounds). They have a graceful build with slender legs and a relatively long neck. Their diet mainly consists of grasses, shrubs, fruits, and leaves.
Chital deer are known for their agility and speed, making them capable of swiftly escaping predators. They’re social animals, often forming herds of varying sizes. These deer are also adaptable and can thrive in various habitats, including forests, grasslands, and open woodlands.
