For an unforgettable adventure in the heart of Australia’s premier hunting reserve, look no further than Happy Hunting Adventures. Nestled within the renowned Water Valley in South Australia, our guided hunts offer an unparalleled opportunity to experience the thrill of the chase amidst breathtaking landscapes, all within 116,000 acre’s of premium hunting territory.
Led by expert hunter Bill Teffaha, each excursion promises an immersive and educational journey as you track down your desired prey. With over 20,000 deer spanning species such as Fallow, Red, Sambar, Rusa, and Chital, the reserve boasts some of the largest trophies in the country, ensuring an unforgettable hunting experience.
This particular hunt has a focus on getting you either a Rubar stag. The term “Rubar” indeed refers to a hybrid between the Sambar deer (Rusa unicolor) and the Rusa deer (Cervus timorensis), specifically found in Australia where both species have been introduced. These hybrids are sometimes colloquially called “Rubar deer.”
As hybrids, Rubar deer can exhibit a mix of traits from both parent species. They may have characteristics such as a coat color and pattern intermediate between Sambar and Rusa deer, as well as a combination of antler features. Additionally, their size and weight could fall within a range intermediate to that of Sambar and Rusa deer.
Rubar deer are typically found in areas where both Sambar and Rusa deer populations overlap, especially in parts of Australia where both species have been introduced for hunting and conservation purposes. Due to their hybrid status, Rubar deer might display a degree of adaptability to various habitats and environmental conditions, inherited from both parent species.
Their presence in Australia highlights the potential for hybridization between introduced species, which can have both positive and negative impacts on local ecosystems and wildlife management efforts.
