Trophy rusa stag hunt or meat hunt – Water Valley

Happy Hunting Adventures

Hunt Description

For an unforgettable adventure in the heart of Australia’s premier hunting reserve, look no further than Happy Hunting Adventures. Nestled within the renowned Water Valley in South Australia, our guided hunts offer an unparalleled opportunity to experience the thrill of the chase amidst breathtaking landscapes, all within 116,000 acre’s of premium hunting territory.

Led by expert hunter Bill Teffaha, each excursion promises an immersive and educational journey as you track down your desired prey. With over 20,000 deer spanning species such as Fallow, Red, Sambar, Rusa, and Chital, the reserve boasts some of the largest trophies in the country, ensuring an unforgettable hunting experience.

This particular hunt has a focus on getting you either a Rusa stag, or meat animal (hind). The Rusa deer, also known as Javan rusa or Sunda sambar, is a medium-sized deer species native to the islands of Java, Bali, and Timor in Indonesia, as well as nearby regions like Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. It’s characterized by its elegant appearance and distinctive antlers.

Physically, Rusa deer typically have a reddish-brown coat with a lighter underside. They may also have white spots on their back and sides, especially when young. Both males, known as stags, and females, known as hinds, possess antlers, though those of males are generally larger and more elaborately branched.

Adult male Rusa deer can weigh between 100 to 160 kilograms (220 to 350 pounds), while females are generally smaller, weighing around 45 to 75 kilograms (100 to 165 pounds). They have a sleek and agile build, with slender legs and a relatively long neck.

Rusa deer are primarily herbivores, feeding on a variety of vegetation including grasses, leaves, shoots, and fruits. They are crepuscular animals, meaning they are most active during dawn and dusk, though they may be active at other times depending on factors like habitat and predation pressure.

During the breeding season, male Rusa deer engage in displays of dominance and compete for mating rights. The rutting season typically occurs in the late summer or early autumn, during which time males emit loud calls and may engage in physical contests with rivals. Rusa deer are social animals, often forming small groups or herds led by a dominant male.
